Domestic Violence

According to Safe Horizion, domestic violence is a pattern of behavior used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation, often including the threat or use of violence. The most common forms of domestic violence include intimate partner violence, battering, relationship abuse, spousal abuse, or family violence. Most people who are in abusive relationships don't even realize that they are in an abusive relationships because they are still emotionally attached to their spouse. As a result, victims of domestic abuse are more likely to commit suicide, become homeless, become mentally disturbed, or get killed by their abuser.

Human Trafficking

According to State of California Department of Justice Office of the Attorney General, "all acts involved in the recruitment, abduction, transport, harboring, transfer, sale or receipt of persons, within national or across international borders, through force, coercion, fraud or deception, to place persons in situations of slavery or slavery-like conditions, forced labor or services, such as forced prostitution or sexual services, domestic servitude, bonded sweatshop labor, or other debt bondage."

The Rights of Victims of Human Trafficking

• They are not culpable for crimes committed as a direct result of their victimization
• They should not be detained in facilities inappropriate to their status as a crime victim
• They must receive necessary medical care and other assistance
• They will be provided protection if their safety is at risk or if there is danger of recapture by the trafficker
• If the victim is a foreign national, they have the right to apply for adjustment of their immigration status by applying for a T Visa
• Once the victim receives their T Visa, the victim has the right to be certified for benefits, such as those received by a refugee

Rape

According to Dictionary.com, rape can be defined as "unlawful sexual intercourse or any other sexual penetration of the vagina, anus, or mouth of another person, with or without force, by a sex organ, other body part, or foreign object, without the consent of the victim.".

Take Action

Do not be afraid to report rape, even if your school or job administration tells you not to. You are the victim, not the rapist. It is not your fault for being raped. Your rapist is just an insecure and evil person who needs to be taken to justice. At the first instinct of rape, Don't shower or douche before talking with the officer and going to emergency room or Women's Crisis Center.

Sexual Harrassment

Sexual Harassment can be defined as ANY sexual behavior that is unwelcome and makes the person feel uncomfortable or unsafe using inapporiate physical or verbal interactions. It usually occurs in the workplace and on the streets.

Take Action

Do not be afraid to report sexual assault and sexual harassment, even if your school or job administration tells you not to. You are the victim, not the perpetrator. It is not your fault for victimized. Your perpetrator is just an insecure and evil person who needs to be taken to justice. At the first instinct of action, Go to the local police precinct and talk with the officer about pressing charges against your perpetrator. If it happened at your school or workplace, talk to your administrator about the actions inflicted upon you by the perpetrator.
